3-Month-Old Dies After 'Out-Of-Control' Dog Attacks Baby, 2 People Arrested
A 3-month-old baby in England died after being allegedly attacked by an "out-of-control" dog, following which two people were arrested in connection to the death.
The child was at a scenic location in Lincolnshire when the incident took place Sunday night, local media reported. Police officers were called to the scene in Ostler's Plantation by East Midlands Ambulance Service, BBC reported.
A 40-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog that attacked the child.
"This is an exceptionally sad incident, and one that we know will impact the local community, or indeed anyone hearing about it," Lincolnshire Police's Chief Superintendent Andy Cox said, according to Sky News. "There may be a temptation to speculate about what happened while people attempt to understand this tragedy, and we'd ask people to avoid doing so, particularly on social media where facts can become distorted.
"We will do everything we can to establish what has happened, and we'd like to thank everyone for their support," he added.
The officers have not released information about how the baby died. It was also not clear if the baby was with her parents or someone else.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said they sent a paramedic in an ambulance car, a crewed ambulance and a doctor from the Air Ambulance to the scene, according to the Evening Standard.
It remains unclear what breed of dog attacked the baby. The fate of the dog also remains unknown. Authorities did not reveal what provoked the dog to attack the child.
In a similar incident, two toddler girls in England were viciously attacked by a dog on a street in broad daylight in February last year. The incident took place in Birmingham. A CCTV camera captured the attack, media reports said at the time. The video allegedly showed the girls screaming as the dog charged at them. The girls, aged 2 and 3, were accompanied by an adult at the time. One of the girls was seen being knocked over as the dog attacked her. The unidentified adult tried to stop the dog, but failed. The other child was watching on as the dog bit the girl. After attacking the first girl, the dog charged at the second, who was standing nearby.
