KEY POINTS

  • "Scarlet Nexus" is written by the same team that handled "Tales Of Vesperia"
  • The game's combat is reminiscent of "Bayonetta" and "Kingdom Hearts"
  • Players will get to interact with NPC companions with a bond system similar to the "Persona" series

The release of Bandai Namco’s anime action adventure game “Scarlet Nexus” is imminent, and pre-release reviews across the board have been very positive thus far. While the game may seem like another typical anime-style RPG, “Scarlet Nexus” actually takes some elements from iconic games and turns them into a well-balanced and fully-fleshed out system that works surprisingly well.

Bandai Namco is no stranger to producing action adventure RPGs such as this one, with titles like “Code: Vein” and the “Tales” series of JRPGs under their belt. “Scarlet Nexus” is the culmination of the company’s RPG experience and they’ve given it their all to make a compelling game that’s more than worth the hype.

Here are three reasons to be excited for “Scarlet Nexus.”

Deep, Double-Sided Story

“Scarlet Nexus” is set in the fictional country of New Himuka that’s slowly being overrun by monsters called the Others. Players will take the role of a psionic operative of the Others Suppression Force (OSF), tasked with eliminating the Others.

Unlike traditional RPGs, players will get to choose between two characters: the fresh recruit Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall, an elite psionic with extremely strong powers. Each character will have its own perspective of the game’s campaign as well as unique abilities and companions

The main story (written by the team behind “Tales Of Vesperia”) starts simple at first but, in the usual JRPG fashion, it gets deeper and more complex the further players progress into the plotline. Fans of narrative-driven games will find much to enjoy in “Scarlet Nexus” just for the story alone.

Fast And Visceral Combat

Unlike “Code: Vein,” “Scarlet Nexus” ditches the “Souls”-like formula in favor of a faster combat system with quick combos and party interactions. The game plays similarly to “Devil May Cry” and “Bayonetta” with a dash of “Kingdom Hearts.”

Yuito and Kasane have their own fighting styles and their AI companions can aid them in combat through the Struggle Arms System that imbues the player’s moves with the respective teammate’s abilities.

Interactive Cast Of Characters

“Scarlet Nexus” lets players team up with other OSF psionics in their team who have their own abilities and personalities. More importantly, the game has a bond system similar to “Persona” that lets players get closer with their squadmates.

Improving bonds with team members not only unlocks more interactions with them, but it will also unlock special combat moves for players to take advantage of.
