A Los Angeles woman has been detained as a "person of interest" after her three young children, including a 6-month-old baby, were found dead at the family's home Monday, police said.

Emergency officers arrived at a home in East Los Angeles around 3.45 p.m. ET Monday after a family member called for help. The officers found two boys and one girl, all under the age of three, unresponsive in the bedroom of the house.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and paramedics tried to revive the children but did not succeed. The children were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators have described the deaths as "suspicious" but have not yet determined the exact cause. However, officials say there are no indications of a shooting.

The children's father was not at home during the incident. The family member who reported the incident and the children's mother were the only ones present at the residence when the police responded.

"At this point, it's very preliminary in the investigation," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Chuck Calderaro said. "We know the children were in a bedroom within the house. As far as the cause of death, that's unknown at this time and that's under investigation," Calderaro added, ABC 7 reported.

The 28-year-old mother, whose identity was not revealed, was detained for questioning, police said, Washinton Post reported. The officials said they will conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death.

In April, a Los Angeles mother was arrested for allegedly killing her three children, including an infant. Liliana Carrillo was accused of murdering her three children, aged 3, 2 and 6 months, at their apartment complex in Reseda. The incident came to light after the children's grandmother called the police after they were found dead at the residence. The court documents revealed that Carillo was reportedly involved in a tense custody dispute with the children's father, Erik Denton. Carillo, who fled after the incident, was taken into custody after a long-distance chase with the law enforcement officials.
