In a shocking incident, a Delaware day care worker suffocated a four-month-old infant to death for crying non-stop.

In a news release Friday, the Delaware State Police said officials and paramedics responded to Little People Child Development Center in Bear on Thursday after getting a report about an unresponsive infant. Upon arrival, the officials found the girl lying motionless and immediately rushed the infant to Christiana Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead. Investigation revealed that 19-year-old Dejoynay Ferguson, who was the assigned caregiver for the deceased, suffocated the infant.

“The investigation, being conducted by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit, has determined that Ferguson, who was the assigned caregiver for the female victim in the Infant Room at the facility, placed her hands over the victim’s mouth and nose and intentionally restricted her breathing until she became unresponsive,” the news release stated.

“Once becoming unresponsive the victim was placed back into a crib by Ferguson. After approximately 20 minutes Ferguson advised the owner of the facility that the victim was unresponsive at which time a call was made to 911,” the release added.

According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC Philadelphia, CCTV footage showed the accused picking up the infant from the floor and placing her on a changing table before putting on latex gloves and placing her hand over the victim’s nose and mouth for over three minutes till the girl stopped moving.

According to the Delaware News Journal, the accused told the police that she placed her hand over the infant’s face because she was behaving “fussy” and wouldn’t stop crying.

Meanwhile, Ferguson was charged with one count of Murder. She was “being committed to the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $1,000,000.00 cash bail.”

Police said following the infant’s death, “the Office of Childcare Licensing has suspended the license of the facility indefinitely.”
