4 Perks Meghan Markle Would Have As A Dual Citizen
Meghan Markle has relocated in London, and she plans to stay in the country for as long as possible to become a UK citizen.
However, become a citizen of the United Kingdom won’t happen immediately after she marries Prince Harry. Rather, the entire process would take as long as 93 months before she becomes a dual citizen.
But this does not mean that her long wait won’t be worth it because there are some perks to becoming a dual citizen.
1 Ability to vote in both countries
As a dual citizen of the U.S. and the UK, Markle could vote in both countries during the national elections. She can also run for office in both countries if she wants to. However, it is important to note that she will be marrying the prince, and this means that she can’t really become a politician.
2 Ability to carry two passports
Dual citizens have two valid passports. This makes it easier for them to travel from their home country to their current home country. Having two passports also eliminates the need for long-stay visas and questioning especially when it comes to the purpose of the trip.
3 Ability to own properties
Markle, who will eventually become a dual citizen, will also have the opportunity to own properties in both countries.
4 Investment opportunities
Other than investing in property ownership, dual citizens also have the ability to invest their money in other things such as businesses and companies. However, since she will be marrying the prince, there may not be a need for her to do so.
Meanwhile, having dual citizenship also has its drawbacks. For instance, Markle may be taxed twice. Additionally, applying for dual citizenship will take several years, and a hefty sum of money needs to be spent while doing so.
Luckily for Markle, the “Suits” alum will be able to enjoy these perks without necessarily having to worry about the disadvantages because she will be marrying the prince.
