Four Massachusetts teenagers were arrested Saturday for throwing bricks at moving vehicles and seriously injuring a man.

Two males, aged 15 and 16, and two females, also aged 15 and 16, were arrested by the Worcester police in connection with the incident.

A 37-year-old man suffered “very serious and permanent injuries” when a brick struck him on his face after breaking through the windshield when he passed a red SUV, which was being driven by one of the teens. The police found a total of 19 vehicles were struck and damaged by bricks.

The incident happened at around 3.50 p.m. EST, Saturday, when the police responded to a report of man injured by bricks thrown at him while driving eastbound on Plantation street, news outlet Boston Herald reported.

The injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“He has permanent injuries, including multiple fractures in his face, nose, and mouth, and suffered a concussion. He will need his jaw wired shut for a time,” a GoFundMe Page set up for his treatment said.

The police then found the teens were also throwing bricks at other vehicles from the stolen SUV. The teens were later located driving the same SUV; however, they refused to pull over. The two boys ran away after they were stopped by the officers and were arrested after a foot chase.

“It's an awful, totally senseless crime, leading to permanent consequences for the victims here and just an awful decision on their part,” said Worcester Police Lt. Sean Murtha, reported local news outlet WCVB.

The suspects face charges including five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, mayhem, conspiracy, 19 counts of malicious damage to a motor vehicle and charges for resisting arrest. In addition to all these charges, the 16-year-old male suspect was found in possession of brass knuckles, due to which he was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.

“I think anyone with any common sense would realize that throwing a brick at a moving vehicle like that -- when you hit somebody’s head, which could result in a terrible tragedy. Which it did,” Murtha said, reported news outlet NBC Boston.

The identities of the suspects were not revealed due to their age, and they were charged as juveniles. The suspects were brought in court on Monday.
