Four students from the University of Idaho were found dead in a home near the Moscow campus in the state. The authorities said all four deaths were being investigated as homicides.

The deputies from the Moscow Police Department responded to a call on King Road on Sunday after receiving a report about an "unconscious individual," the department said in a press release.

The four deceased individuals were found in a "house that was converted into an apartment," Moscow Police Department Captain Tyson Berrett told the Idaho Statesman.

University of Idaho President Scott Green confirmed the four individuals were students of the varsity, and were living outside the campus. The students' families were notified about the deaths, according to CNN.

"It is with deep sadness that I share with you that the university was notified today of the death of four University of Idaho students living off-campus believed to be victims of homicide," Green said in a statement.

"MPD does not believe there is an active threat. We are grateful for the support of the community and the ongoing efforts of the Police Department. The university is committed to supporting students and families during this difficult time," Green added.

Details about the university students' cause of death, their ages, gender and other details were not released, according to NBC News.

An alert was posted on social media by the University of Idaho at around 3:07 p.m. Sunday, and students were asked to shelter in place.

About an hour later, the shelter-in-place request was raised, and officials confirmed there was no continuing threat.

The university canceled all classes Monday in light of the four students' deaths and is expected to resume classes Tuesday. Counseling services are being offered on campus.

"An event of this magnitude can understandably have significant impacts on those left behind. As Vandals, we must come together and lift each other up," Green added.

"This is an ongoing investigation," Berrett said in the statement, according to the outlet.

Berrett noted that more details would be released in due time.

"The Moscow Police Department gives our heartfelt condolences to family members, friends and the Moscow community," Berrett added.
