47-Year-Old Drags Minor By Hair, Threatens Her With Knife After Refusing To Marry Him
A 47-year-old man has dragged a minor girl by the hair and threatened her with a knife after she turned down his marriage proposal.
The incident took place in Raipur, in the Central Indian state of Chattisgarh, over the weekend. The man was taken into custody after a video of the assault made it on social media, NDTV reported.
The graphic video obtained by the Times of India reportedly showed the man dragging the 16-year-old by the hair and parading her down a road while holding a large knife in his other hand.
The man, identified as Omkar Tiwari, wanted to marry the girl, who was an employee at the grocery shop in the city's Gudhiyari area, according to NDTV. When Tiwari came clean about his intentions to marry the girl, the unidentified victim turned him down and quit her job. Police believe they were also embroiled in a money dispute.
Tiwari allegedly broke into the girl's house in a drunken state Saturday and started yelling at her family. He then attacked the girl with a knife and stabbed her in the neck. The injured girl tried to run away, but Tiwari chased her and clutched her hair before walking her down the road in full public view.
"As the incident came to light, police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused assailant," Prashant Agrawal, Raipur's senior superintendent of police, told The Print. "As the incident came to light, police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused assailant."
