'48 Hours' Preview: Haley Anderson's Murder Examined After Police Learn Of 'Concerning' Voicemails
On Saturday night, a new episode of "48 Hours" will give viewers the opportunity to investigate the murder of Haley Anderson. Throughout the show, CBS News contributor Maria Elena Salinas will speak to those who knew the one-time nursing student and several people who worked on the subsequent investigation surrounding her death.
In March 2018, Anderson was going to college at Binghamton University and was living with her roommate Josie Artin. As she was nearing the end of her final year at school, she was planning to move home and start a job at a nearby hospital. According to CBS News, this decision thrilled her mother, as she was looking forward to having her daughter home once again.
Described as "the most sensitive and supportive friend ever," Anderson had developed a close group of friends while attending college. She had also become involved with a man by the name of Orlando Tercero. Firsthand accounts from those who knew her can be viewed in the preview below.
After going to bed during the early morning hours of March 8, her friends had been unable to reach her the following day. Initially, those who were trying to reach Anderson were not concerned, as they knew her to be an independent person. "When I first didn't hear from her, I didn't think, 'Oh, something terrible has happened,'" says Artin. However, when she failed to show up later that evening for an event, they started to become worried and wondered where she could be.
Using the "Find My Friends" app, they were able to trace her location back to Tercero's apartment.
Prior to Anderson's disappearance, those close to the two revealed that they had once had "a friendship fraught with tension." Artin elaborated on this, saying that over time, he had shown signs of jealously and had driven by her home on multiple occasions.
On the night that the nursing student went missing, Tercero's sister had also requested that police do a welfare check after she received a "concerning voicemail." Eventually, Anderson's friends also visited the home and climbed through a window when no one answered their knocks on the door.
Police eventually recovered "security camera footage from several different locations that became evidence in a murder case." Images showed Tercero at his home and ended with him at JFK International Airport where he was seen boarding a plane home to Nicaragua.
Saturday night's new episode of "48 Hours" will take a closer examination of the circumstances surrounding Anderson's death.
This episode of "48 Hours," called "The Murder of Haley Anderson," will air Saturday at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
