Although 2020 has been quite an unpredictable year with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other catastrophes around the world, one thing that remains certain is that the holidays will go on.

Television networks and streaming platforms are rolling out this year’s collection of holiday movies and they are certainly high on the holiday spirit. Gorgeous locations, cheerful décor, inclusive storylines, and heartwarming family reunions are some of the few reasons to start a Christmas movie marathon right away. Here we give you five must-watch movies to add to your list to binge-watch, this festive season.

Happiest Season

A Hulu original, “Happiest Season” is not a traditional Christmas love story but a perfect queer rom-com. Starring Kristen Stewart as Abby and Mackenzie Davis as Harper in the leading roles, the movie is a coming home and coming-out story. Abby plans to propose to her girlfriend Harper in front of her family during their Christmas holiday. Unfortunately, Harper is yet to come out to her conservative parents. The movie also stars “Schitt’s Creek” star Dan Levy.

Christmas Chronicles 2

From the maker of Christmas classics “Home Alone” (1990) and “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” (1992) Chris Columbus, we have got another cheerful wonder, a “Christmas Chronicles” sequel. The second part of the 2018 movie starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus and Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus, “The Christmas Chronicles 2” is another magical adventure. Mr. and Mrs. Claus reunite with now a teenager Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) to save the festival for the world.

A Creepshow Holiday Special

Apart from all the festive cheers that these movies promise to bring, there is one for horror lovers. “Creepshow’s” holiday-themed story promises to add some creepy shudders to your cold winter nights. Adam Pally starrer special Christmas story “Shapeshifters Anonymous” is the story of an anxious man who fears to be a murderer and finds support from a group of werewolves.

Holidate

Emma Roberts (Sloane) and Luke Bracey (Jackson) are feeling the pressure of being single during the holidays. The pair decides to be each others' plus one to every family reunion during holidays. This movie sees the duo fall in love, complicating their single status that they are not ready to let go of. Even though the movie is high on the predictability scale, it is a perfect comfort-watch for movie lovers.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square

Dolly Parton’s festive movie on Netflix is a musical delight with a star-studded cast. Apart from Parton, there is Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, and Treat Williams telling the story about a wealthy landowner Regina Fuller returning to her hometown just in time for Christmas with bad news for the residents. She wants to expel them to sell the land to a mall builder. The movie is a perfect holiday musical with original songs by the star.
