Tequila is an alcohol that many people tend to have a love-hate relationship with. But whether Tequila is something that helps you create some of the best drinks in your repertoire or it makes you feel slightly more sick than you’d like, there’s still reason to celebrate National Tequila Day.

Tequila, which is distilled from the blue agave plant and is most often produced in Mexico, is a staple ingredient in several cocktails that can make any night—be it a night out on the town, a backyard summer barbeque, or just a fun dinner—infinitely more fun and tasty. With today also being National Tequila Day, it is the perfect time to try some of the drinks that Tequila just makes into classics. Here are five amazing cocktails to give a try:

Margaritas:

One of the more famous drinks that Tequila is known for, Margaritas should be a go to option for anyone celebrating on National Tequila Day. With a wide variety in ways it is served (on-the-rocks, frozen, straight), and any combination of potential add-ins to get a phenomenal flavor, there are seemingly endless combinations to choose from. Some great options include:

The Paloma

This drink, which most often combines Tequila and Grapefruit, is a refreshing choice. Give this recipe from Epicurious a try: Pour some kosher salt onto a plate; Rub half of rim of a highball glass with a grapefruit wedge and dip the rim of the glass in the salt; Combine ¼ cup grapefruit juice, 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice and t teaspoon of sugar in the glass, stir until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in ¼ cup of tequila, add ice, and top off with ¼ cup club soda. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

Tequila Sunrise

Another classic drink that gets its name mostly because it involves Tequila, and looks similar to a sunrise when made correctly. However, despite looking like it should be complicated, it's relatively simple to make. Geoffrey Zakarian from the Food Network has a great recipe for this drink: In a highball glass filled with ice, pour in 1 ½ ounces of Tequila and ¾ cup of orange juice. Slowly pour ¾ ounce of grenadine syrup into the glass either over the back of a spoon or by drizzling it down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Bloody Maria

No, that’s not a typo or the drink famously made with vodka. However, the recipe is mostly the same, though you substitute vodka with tequila.

El Diablo

Another Tequila option that can be made with some slight variations on the original recipe, Imbibe has a good recipe to try out: Combine tequila, crème de cassis, and fresh lime juice and shake. Fine-Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass, top with ginger beer and garnish with lime or blackberries.
