The 5 Best New Holiday Movies To Stream This Year On Netflix, AppleTV+ And More
After binging holiday classics all season, it can be difficult to find new films that match the holiday magic of your childhood favorites. Here's a list of the top 5 new holiday streaming releases of 2022 including some renditions of previous classics as well as new festive romantic comedies that the entire family is sure to enjoy.
1. "A Christmas Story Christmas"
A sequel to the original 1983 holiday classic, "A Christmas Story," this film follows Ralphie (reprised by Peter Billingsley) as he returns to his Indiana home with his family and attempts to reconnect with his old friends to recreate the Christmas magic of his childhood. Directed by Clay Kaytis, this is a new HBO Max production to match the annual 24-hour run of the original film on TBS and TNT on Christmas day.
2. "Spirited"
Starring comedy and film icons, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, this film redefines Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" storyline with musical numbers, holiday magic, and comedic twists. Ferrell plays the ghost of Christmas present, who uses a special team to try and trick "Scrooges," including Reynolds' character Clint Briggs, into being better people.
3. "Falling for Christmas"
Lindsay Lohan stars in this Hallmark-Esque romantic comedy on Netflix. This is the child star's first leading role in almost a decade as she stars alongside "Glee" alumni Chord Overstreet. Lohan's character Sierra Belmont is a wealthy hotel heiress who gets amnesia after a ski accident. During her state of memory loss, she ends up at a ski lodge with Overstreet's character Jake Russell, learning how to run the lodge while slowly falling in love.
4. "A Hollywood Christmas"
This film follows the struggles of an optimistic holiday movie director Jessica (Jessika Van) after her network's boss, Christopher (Josh Swickard) cuts the budget of her film and continues to watch her production closely. In a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, the two soon discover that holiday magic can exist even in Hollywood.
5. "Scrooge: A Christmas Carol"
Olivia Colman, Luke Evans, Jessie Buckley, and Jonathan Pryce star in voice-acting roles in this animated holiday film. Another "A Christmas Carol" film, this story incorporates new songs to reinvigorate the 1843 literary classic. This is a great children's movie to put on while cooking a holiday feast or to watch with the whole family on Christmas day.
