Five fetuses were found inside the home of an anti-abortion activist in Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

Washington, D.C. police received a tip that there may be biohazardous material inside a house occupied by Lauren Handy, 38. After searching the home, “detectives took evidence out in red biohazard bags and coolers” from the basement. The fetuses were then collected by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, according to WUSA.

When asked what was inside of the coolers, Handy told WUSA that "people would freak out when they heard,” and that she was expecting the raid “sooner or later.”

Handy, an anti-abortion activist, was also charged Wednesday with nine other defendants with felony conspiracy against rights for blocking access to an abortion clinic in October of 2020.

According to court documents, during the incident, Handy called an abortion clinic and made an appointment pretending to be a patient. On the day of the appointment, the group she was with pushed their way inside after a worker opened the door for patients and chained themselves together to block the treatment area.

Handy is known for having a history of legal issues related to her anti-abortion activities.
