5 Foods That Could Help Lower The Risk Of Various Cancers

No food can completely protect people against cancer. However, switching to a healthy diet is important. Some food, when becoming a part of the daily diet, can offer some protection against some cancers.
American Institute of Cancer Research shared a list of foods that possess the potential to reduce the risk of cancer, Mirror reported.
- Coffee - A study conducted by researchers at Queen’s University Belfast showcased that coffee drinkers were 50 percent less likely to get a common type of liver cancer – hepatocellular carcinoma. The coffee bean contains plant chemicals and polyphenols that may cause to stop the cancer cells from dividing. However, instant coffee and decaffeinated coffee may not be as effective as a freshly brewed cup.
- Apples – This food contains a component called quercetin can diminish inflammation in the body and prevent cells from decaying. The skin of an apple contains triterpenoids and it is a cancer-fighting component. A study done in 2016 in Italy showed that consuming at least one apple a day may reduce the risk of lung cancer by almost 25 percent. It also keeps tumors of mouth, breast, and bowels away.
- Grapes – Resveratrol, which is a plant chemical known for its anti-cancer properties, is found in the skin of purple and red grapes. Grapes and grapes juice are recommended by experts. Numerous tests show resveratrol is known to slow the growth of cancer cells in the body.
- Blueberries – These are known for being rich in vitamins K and C. Moreover, they have ample dietary fiber and manganese. Various studies conducted in the U.S. state that daily consumption of blueberries may cut the risk of bowel cancer by close to 57 percent.
- Garlic – According to a study conducted on 471 men, higher consumption of garlic was linked with a lower risk of prostate cancer. Allicin is an active component found in garlic and it has shown signs of fighting cancer cells in various lab studies. Garlic helps in reducing the risk of prostate, colorectal and stomach cancers.
