5-Month-Old Infant Boy Burned To Death After Being Left Unattended Next To A Heater
A five-month-old baby boy was found burned to death after he was left unmonitored next to a space heater. The incident took place at Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday morning.
The baby was left unattended inside a bedroom and had suffered burns all over his body. He was reportedly found by the mother’s boyfriend.
According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an emergency call regarding an unresponsive child. It was unsure as to who reported the emergency. However, when officers arrived, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chief Coroner Leon Jones, who responded to the scene, said the incident took place at a home located on Bishop Road.
“The mother was in another bedroom and supposedly the baby got out of the car seat onto an electric heater,” he said.
According to the release, there were three other people present in the house, including the child’s 28-year-old mother, her boyfriend, and her boyfriend’s brother. The woman’s boyfriend was not the child’s father. All three people were taken into custody for questioning.
The Bibb County Sheriff's officers were investigating the incident along with the Division of Family and Children Services members. An autopsy examination was scheduled for the body.
No charges were filed as of now and the case was still under investigation.
In a similar incident that took place in February, an eight-month-old boy was burned to death in a house fire that broke out on the second floor of a building located at North Karachi, Pakistan. The mother had left the baby asleep on the bed and only the infant’s uncle was present in the house at the time. It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to stop the fire. However, the infant was already dead. It was determined that the fire was caused due to a short circuit.
