5 People Shot Dead By Man For ‘Talking Loudly’ Amidst Lockdown In Russia
A Russian man fatally shot five people for talking loudly outside his house at night. The incident took place in the Ryazan region, Russia, on Saturday night.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred in the village of Yelatma, Ryazan region, located at about 124 miles south-east of Moscow. The area was placed under lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak when the incident took place.
The accused, identified as a 32-year-old resident of Yelatma, opened fire at a group of people, including four young men and one woman for talking loudly on the streets under his window.
On Sunday, investigators said the man had got to his balcony and initially complained to the group about the noise. However, they got into an argument, following which, he took out his single-barrel hunting rifle and opened fire at the victims.
According to the investigators, all five victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
The suspect whose name was not revealed was later arrested by the police. Officers also searched his apartment and seized the weapon.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced an extension of the non-working period, that was implemented until April 5, to April 30th. The restrictions were placed to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Russia also closed its borders and was monitoring all international flights in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
In a similar incident in Brazil that took place in December last year, a man was stabbed to death by a neighbor for complaining about loud music. The victim, who was identified as 37-year-old Helenildo Alves dos Santos, had knocked on the apartment of the accused early morning to complain about the loud music. However, as soon as the accused, identified as 35-year-old João Roberto Penna Pereira opened the door, Santos had allegedly punched the former in front of his wife and son. Pereira asked his wife to call the police before confronting Santos with a knife and fatally stabbing him. Pereira was detained for questioning and was later released. It was not known if any charges were filed against him.
As of Monday, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide has reached 1,275,542. So far, 69,514 people have reportedly died from the virus whereas, 262,999 people have recovered. Meanwhile, Russia has reported 5,389 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the death toll has reached 45, whereas, 355 people have recovered.
