A 5-year-old girl in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was raped by her tutor's teenage son earlier this week, police said Wednesday.
The victim was visiting her teacher at his home in the city of Ghaziabad Tuesday, but she ended up being left alone with the latter's 13-year-old son, newspaper The Times of India reported, citing city superintendent Nipun Agarwal.
The teenager proceeded to rape the girl in the home that evening while his father was away, according to police.
Authorities learned of the sexual assault after the victim returned home and revealed the ordeal to her mother, who then filed a police complaint.
A case was registered under section 376 (rape of women under twelve years of age) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, according to the report.
The girl was also sent for a medical examination after she complained about pain in the lower abdomen and showed bloodstains on her clothes.
The alleged rapist appeared before a juvenile court and was sent to a childcare home in the neighboring city of Noida, police said.
The rape survivor's identity was not disclosed to protect her privacy, in accordance with the Supreme Court's directives on cases related to sexual assault.
A similar incident happened in Uttar Pradesh last month when a 13-year-old boy allegedly raped his 9-year-old neighbor while the latter was playing with a friend outside her home.
The teen reportedly brought the victim to a secluded place in the city of Bareilly on Sept. 16 and proceeded to rape her.
The girl's mother learned of the incident after the victim came home crying, which prompted the parent to file a case against the teen.
The teen and his father, however, allegedly stopped the mother while she was on her way to the police station and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
The mother was later able to report the incident to a doctor when she took her daughter to a community health center over the child's deteriorating health.
The doctor informed authorities and police registered a case against the teen under section 376 of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
