Rapper 50 Cent has shared his take on depression. He says it is a "luxury" that people who come from where he comes from can't afford.

The 47-year-old rapper, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, appeared on the hip-hop radio show "Big Boy's Neighborhood" on Wednesday and spoke about how people in his neighborhood keep working amid mental health issues because they got responsibilities.

"I think depression is a luxury. Where I'm from, you can't afford to be depressed," said the rapper, who hails from a South Jamaica neighborhood in New York City. "You gotta pay the bills, right? So you gotta go to work."

The rapper explained that people there need to get out of their bed daily and go to work.

"You gotta get up, gotta go do what you gotta do. You got people right now that's at work that don't feel like being there. But they got responsibilities," he said. "When these guys get in a slump and they just decide they're not gonna do anything — I'm like, 'Where they do that at?' I think the things you go through make you who you are."

He also spoke about his upcoming album, which will be produced by rapper Dr. Dre.

Cent became a huge name in the hip hop industry after releasing his debut studio album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'." It was released almost 20 years ago in February 2003. Even his first album was produced by Dr. Dre's label Aftermath Entertainment.

Apart from his career in music, the rapper will be next seen in the action-packed movie "The Expendables 4," alongside Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.

50 Cent shares a 26-year-old son with actress Shaniqua Tompkins. He also has another son, Sire Jackson, with actress Daphne Joy.
