'50 Shades Of Grey' Movie Cast Rumors: 'Vampire Diaries' Star Ian Somerhalder Posts Clue? Photo Sends Christian Grey Fans Wild

Did “50 Shades Of Grey” fans just get their first clue as to who will replace Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey? According to those following “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder on Instagram and Twitter, the answer is YES!

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the 34-year-old actor took to his social media sites to post a photo that didn’t feature him, but had a phrase he found to be “sweet.”

“I didn’t fall for you, you f***ing tripped me,” the quote in the photo reads.

The photo immediately threw his followers into a frenzy, believing the quote to be his hint that he will be replacing Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey.

“This is so Christian Grey,” one Instagram user commented. Another wrote, “This is so what #ChristianGrey would say … R U trying to tell us something.”

Fans seem to be referring to the story of how Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele met in the “50 Shades Of Grey” book series. Readers will remember that Anastasia went to interview Christian for her school newspaper as a favor to her sick roommate Kate Kavanaugh. Anastasia ended up tripping in Christian’s office, leading him to help her get steady on her feet again.

Somerhalder’s post comes at an interesting time. According to The Guardian, the movie adaption of “50 Shades Of Grey” is currently in “crisis territory” since Charlie Hunnam’s departure. With the film set to hit theaters on Aug. 1, 2014, producers are reportedly scrambling to get a new actor in place to play the kinky billionaire.

With a new opening for the lead, Celebrity Dirty Laundry claims that Somerhalder has jumped back into Christian Grey campaign mode and is attempting to secure a screen test with Anastasia Steele’s Dakota Johnson. However it’s important to note that “The Canyons” writer, Bret Easton Ellis, previously stated that the “Vampire Diaries” actor was never in the running for the role. Instead, Ellis claims that “50 Shades” author E.L. James had her heart set on “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson. (Which is very fitting since “50 Shades Of Grey” is “Twilight” fan fiction.)

Unfortunately Ian Somerhalder’s photo appears to be just an innocent photo … for now.
