About 50 urine-soaked and feces-matted dogs were rescued by authorities from a house in Houston, Texas.

The Animal Cruelty Investigation team found the canines, including a newborn puppy, in the property located near E. 25th Street by Loop 610.

The animals were living in deplorable conditions as the home was filled with debris and feces, and had a heavy smell of ammonia, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said in a news release. The investigation team was assisted by the Harris County Constables Precinct 1 to rescue the dogs.

The breeds of the dogs were not revealed.

The dogs are being looked over by Houston SPCA's veterinarians, according to KHOU. The SPCA is taking care of cruelty exams, vaccinations, nutrition plans and the process of getting de-matted for the dogs.

After receiving a tip, the shelter got an emergency warrant from Harris County Constable Precinct 1 to remove the animals immediately.

The owner of the property was also not named. It was not known for how long the dogs had been locked in the home. It also remains unclear if any arrests were made in connection to the incident.

A hearing is expected to take place next week, according to KHOU.

According to Houston SPCA, animal cruelty incidents can be reported by calling 713-869-7722 or by visiting their website.

In September, more than 80 dogs were rescued in a joint operation in York County, South Carolina. The operation, which was conducted by the York County Sheriff's Office, aimed at combating illegal breeding and fighting dogs. The Department of Agriculture and the State Law Enforcement Division assisted in the operation. Deputies searched several properties on Wildcat Creek Road in Rock Hill and found nearly 50 pit bulls and 30 beagles. Three people were arrested on charges related to stolen property and narcotics. "Animal cruelty on any level is disturbing," Sheriff Kevin Tolson said at the time, urging the courts to ensure justice is served. "We're grateful to work with all levels of law enforcement to combat the evilness of animal fighting. I urge the courts to help render justice from this point moving forward."
