An alligator was caught on camera trying to ring the doorbell of a home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Karen Alfano, who recently moved to the area, was taken by surprise when she saw a six-and-a-half-foot alligator at the front door of her home Monday. Alfano was walking home when she noticed something moving near the front door. She started filming the reptile after which she contacted the local authorities to take it away.

A video of the incident posted on Facebook on Thursday showed the reptile climbing its way up to ring the doorbell. The alligator did not break the hurricane window in the door but did leave a few scratches.

"It was like the coolest thing that could ever possibly happen to you. Some of the neighbors were scared. I just thought it was a great adventure,” Alfano said, ABC 15 News reported.

Alfano said after securing the alligator, the authorities spent some time training the neighborhood children on how to run away from the reptile.

Around the same time, another 10-foot alligator was seen wandering in the area. Brick Graham said he was at his home when a friend told him about authorities trying to secure the reptile in his neighbor’s yard.

"There's the biggest gator I've ever seen in this neighborhood. It was real fat... I don't know what it was, but he was full,” Graham said, adding that the authorities took about 15 minutes to get the reptile under control.

Video of the incident showed the authorities wrangle the alligator out of the yard.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources asked people not to call them if the alligator is smaller than five feet as they generally pose no threat.
