An infant boy received treatment for hypothermia after he was found crying alone inside a vehicle that was stolen and later abandoned in a Minnesota neighborhood.

The child's mother was identified, but it is unclear how the baby ended up inside the 1997 Lexus sedan that was reported stolen, police said. Police in Minneapolis responded to the scene Tuesday and found the 6-month-old baby inside the car on S. Oakland Avenue, according to Star Tribune.

The crying child was alone in the cold temperature and was not placed in a baby seat, officials said. "The child was not dressed for the weather conditions," police added in a Tuesday afternoon statement.

The vehicle in which the baby was found was reported stolen Monday from a location in Alexandria, Minnesota, about 130 miles away from the scene. The owner of the car was listed as a 60-year-old woman, a resident of the town of Nelson, located a few miles east of Alexandria. The car keys were left inside when the vehicle was stolen.

The car was later found with the hypothermic baby inside after a 911 call was made. The caller said a woman in the area claimed to have left her child in a vehicle and was trying to locate the car but couldn't find it.

The woman was in her early 30s, the 911 caller added.

The infant was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment, officials added. The child's condition is non-life-threatening, according to KARE 11.

No details about possible charges in the case were released.

In a similar incident reported recently, a pair of 5-month-old twin babies went missing in Ohio. An Amber alert was issued after the car, in which the babies were placed, was stolen while their mother briefly stepped away.

One of the twins, Kyair Thomas, was found abandoned in a parking lot the day after the Amber Alert was issued. The second twin, Kason Thomas, was found inside the same vehicle a couple of days later in Indiana.
