6 Reasons Why ‘The Bachelorette’ Season 11 Was The Worst Yet [OPINION]
OPINION
There is no denying that “The Bachelorette” star Kaitlyn Bristowe is awesome. The 29-year-old Vancouver dance instructor is gorgeous, funny and knows how to compose herself while dating over 20 guys. However, this season of the ABC reality series was hands down the worst yet.
1. The Britt vs. Kaitlyn Setup
Since “The Bachelorette” premiered in 2003 it has allowed women to date multiple guys and follow their heart to their future husband. So, how did the guys get the power in their hands in Season 11? The series has always relied on the female lead to run the show, yet pitting Kaitlyn against Britt Nilsson gave the men the sense that they were running things in the house.
2. The Men Were Disrespectful
Every season features rude men, but nothing compared to the shenanigans Kaitlyn faced this year. Between Ryan M., Kupah, Clint and Ian, Kaitlyn was groped and received a verbal lashing almost every episode. Perhaps the decision to allow the contestants to vote for their perfect woman put the idea in their head that they could act this way around her? I’m not sure what the thinking was here, but it was disappointing to see the way these men treated a woman. Although some tears were shed along the way, Kaitlyn ultimately handled herself well when tasked with dealing with these disrespectful guys. At least they weren’t rewarded for their bad behavior.
3. Nick Viall
Nick Viall certainly wasn’t a fan favorite when he appeared on Andi Dorfman’s season of “The Bachelorette,” but he crossed a line by outing his sexual relationship with her during the “After the Final Rose” special. Kaitlyn previously revealed that she began talking with Nick prior to being named the star of “The Bachelorette.” While you can’t fault the girl for having feelings for him, my vote is that ABC shouldn’t have allowed him back on the show after his “below the belt” conversation with Andi.
4. The “Visit Ireland” Promotion
Was this season of “The Bachelorette” just one giant promotional plug for “Visit Ireland”? The show made pit stops in New York City and San Antonio, but then set up shop in Ireland for three long episodes. What about the sexy dates on gorgeous beaches?
5. What Happened To Tanning By The Pool?
Spending three episodes in Ireland meant that nobody was lounging in their swim trunks by the pool or taking a late night dip in the ocean. Fans can all agree that Ben Higgins looks pretty attractive in a cable knit sweater, but let’s face the facts – most of these men are wannabe models and are ready to show off all their hard work. I can’t even count how many bikini/ hot tub moments that Chris Soules’ season of “The Bachelor” featured.
6. Ignoring The Formula
Probably the most offensive mistake that “The Bachelorette” made this year was ignoring the “formula.” The show has been on air over 10 years with the same set up – Group date, single date, group date, rose ceremony. We’re all for mixing up the dates, but the episodes NEED to end with a rose ceremony. Most episodes aired the rose ceremony within the first 30 minutes and concluded with a “To Be Continued …” screen following a dramatic moment. The rose ceremony works for the show because it allows things to properly wrap up before moving onto the next part of the journey. Don’t fix something that’s not broken!
Season 11 of “The Bachelorette” wraps up on Monday, July 27. Kaitlyn has narrowed her search for love down to two men – Shawn and Nick. Let’s see where things go …
