The parents of a six-year-old boy have filed a case of medical negligence after their son died following an eye surgery. The incident took place in Bangalore, the capital city of the southern Indian state of Karnataka, on Saturday.

Police said the boy, identified as Shankar, underwent the surgery at Manjunatha Nethtalaya on Saturday morning and was soon shifted to the ward where he died a few hours later. The parents of the child filed a police complaint claiming that their son died of anesthesia overdose, which was denied by the doctors.

“Doctors have maintained that the boy developed a breathing problem and that led to his death. We have registered an FIR and are awaiting the post mortem report to initiate further action,” police said.

The incident comes less than a month after a 14-month-old boy, suffering from fever, died in the Indian city of Pune after the doctor administered an injection. The boy was rushed to the hospital with high fever. He was admitted in the emergency ward and was administered an injection following which the infant developed complications and died. The parents of the infant filed a police complaint and said the boy’s face “turned black and grey” after he was administered the injection.
