A 6-year-old boy in Israel died Tuesday after he was left inside a hot car in a parking lot for hours.

Emergency service personnel arrived at the parking lot in Israel's southern city of Netivot after they received a report of "a child who spent extended time in a closed vehicle." They said the child, identified as Meir Yisrael Ashush, had no vital signs and was declared dead at the scene.

"When we got to the place, they guided us to the parking lot. We saw that near one of the vehicles, cardiopulmonary resuscitation was being performed on a child of about six years old who was evacuated from a closed car, after spending a long time in it. It was very hot to the touch," Paramedic Maoz Viberman said, Aurora Israel reported [Google translation showed]. The temperature in the area reached 33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The boy was the nephew of Shlomo Karhi, a member of the local political party, Lukid, which is headed by former Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu offered his condolences to the family of the boy Tuesday.

"Such a heavy and sad disaster," Netanyahu tweeted [Google translation showed]. "Sarah and I send him and the whole family condolences from the bottom of our hearts."

It remains unclear who left the child in the car and where his parents were at the time.

"He started first grade three weeks ago. The father teaches [here] and his brothers got out of the car before him. Yesterday his teacher told me that he did not know what to do with him because he was far ahead of the rest of the class and could already read," the deputy principal of Ashush's school said.

The latest incident is the second such occurrence in the country in a week. A 2-year-old boy was found lifeless inside a car last week after he was left behind in the scorching heat. The incident took place in the resort city of Eilat, Times of Israel reported. The child was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead. It was unclear if anyone was charged in connection with the incident. On the day of the incident, the temperature in Eilat was 39 degrees Celsius. The city is said to be one of the hottest in the country.
