The child's mother, Ashleigh Chapman, 19, was having lunch when she heard the child making a strange sound, while playing in the lounge space. She thought it was a cough but when she arrived at the spot, she found the baby unconscious. Paramedics arrived at the residents immediately. However, their efforts to revive the baby proved futile and the child died. An autopsy revealed the balloon was lodged inside the child's windpipe.
