New York City -- A brawl that erupted in a New York City-bound Carnival cruise ship earlier this week was sparked by allegations of cheating while on the trip, according to a report.
The fight broke out between roughly 60 people on the fifth floor of the Carnival Magic cruise ship just before 2 a.m. Tuesday when significant others accused their partners of cheating in a threesome, eyewitness passenger Theresa James told Fox News Digital.
The fight started in a nightclub on the ship's fifth floor after the upset significant others confronted their respective partners over their alleged cheating, according to James, a travel agent who witnessed the chaos from her room.
James, who shared footage of the fight with the outlet, claimed that the brawlers smashed beer bottles, and a woman may have suffered a cut during the melee.
The brawl lasted about an hour and took the parties involved from the fifth floor to the ship’s first floor, James claimed. She added that the altercation was not physical the whole time.
The travel agent described the parties involved in the fight as "ignorant fools acting stupid." She credited the ship's security team with getting the situation under control.
A video of the brawl was captured and shared on Twitter Tuesday by user nyeem0.
The brawl required the U.S. Coast Guard to escort the Carnival Magic cruise ship back to its home dock in Manhattan, according to the New York Police Department and local reports.
Passengers were allowed to disembark the ship as normal at the end of the eight-day cruise that sailed to Dominica, Turks and Caicos, and a private island in the Bahamas.
When the ship docked at Pier 88 near West 48th Street, police and EMS were seen waiting.
Carnival issued an official statement regarding the brawl.
“Last night while Carnival Magic was returning to New York, a number of guests were involved in an altercation in a nightclub. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported and our onboard security team intervened,” the statement read. “The ship arrived as scheduled this morning and shoreside law enforcement authorities were notified and met the ship to interview suspects and witnesses and conduct an investigation.”
It is unclear whether anyone has been or will be arrested and charged over the incident. An investigation on the matter remains ongoing.
