  • Jorginho has just a year left on his current Chelsea contract
  • He played 29 league games for Chelsea last term
  • Jorginho moved from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018

Jorginho is reportedly hoping to stay at Chelsea ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The Italian midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Chelsea and his future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain as of now. Jorginho's agent, Joao Santos, has claimed that his client is keen to renew his contract with Chelsea.

"Chelsea are the priority. The contract will expire in 2023. I think we will talk about the renewal from September," Santos told Tuttomercatoweb, Goal.com reported.

Around three months back, Santos claimed Jorginho wanted to return to Serie A amid interest from the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and his former club Napoli, according to SportsMole.

When Jorginho decided to leave Napoli in 2018 after five fine seasons, he was heavily linked with Manchester City. However, the defensive midfielder eventually landed in Chelsea in a $69 million deal. The 30-year-old has been an influential figure at Stamford Bridge, helping the side win four trophies, including the 2020-21 Champions League.

In four seasons at Chelsea, Jorginho has made 188 appearances across all competitions, while he has also contributed with 26 goals and eight assists. Out of the 38 games in the Premier League in the 2021-22 season, Jorginho played 29, starting 26 of those.

Jorginho is now one of the 10 Chelsea players who has just a year remaining on their contracts. The others major names include Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, N'Golo Kante and Ross Barkley.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have already lost two of their key defenders: Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, both on free transfer to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively. The Blues also have loaned out forward Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

Thomas Tuchel, who lost two finals last season – FA Cup and League Cup, coincidently both to Liverpool – has made forward Raheem Sterling and center-back Matthijs de Ligt his top targets in the ongoing summer window. Chelsea are also in the race to sign Leeds United winger Raphinha. However, despite their superior offer, they could not succeed because the Brazilian player is believed to prefer a move to Barcelona.
