Seven people have been arrested on charges of child and animal abuse after cops found signs of neglect and cruelty at a home in Floyd County, Georgia.

When the police arrived at the house to investigate a complaint, they found the place in a complete mess with three small children and a disabled 19-year-old living in poor and unhealthy conditions, WSBTV reported.

The seven adults arrested were living together in the house. The accused have been identified as Stephen Leatherwood, 47, Leslie Smith, 42, Rocky Hayes, 37, Daniel Johnson, 24, Hannah Leatherwood, 23, Courtney Johnson, 22, and Justin Leslie, 21.

In a detailed report, the police described the home as "completely filthy," with trash piled up and animal droppings and mold all around, as per local media. Several walls were without sheetrock, while one of the bedrooms had a hole in the ceiling.

The children appeared "physically dirty" and had diaper rashes. Officers also found 10 dogs inside and around the house. One of these canines, a female dog that had just given birth to five puppies, was found to be severely malnourished.

All the accused were taken into custody on a total of 58 charges and are currently being held in the Floyd County Jail.

The charges included three counts of child cruelty, three counts of contributing to the deprivation of a child, one count of neglect of a disabled adult, and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Furthermore, Johnson was charged with five counts of cruelty to animals. Leslie was also charged with three counts of contributing to the deprivation of a child, one count of neglect to a disabled adult, and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

No additional information was revealed in the case.

In a similar incident reported in April 2021, a Pennsylvania couple was arrested after their two children were found living in filth in their Armstrong county home. Edward Reed, Jr., 24, and Kayla Vojtilla, 22, were taken into custody on charges of endangering the welfare of children after the police found their 3-year-old son and 4-month-old baby sleeping in a flea-infested room. Cops found garbage and soiled diapers scattered throughout the house, along with dirty vessels covered with insects in the kitchen.
