7 Movies To Watch On Netflix On New Year's Eve
Staying in for New Year’s Eve? It’s probably the best choice for ringing in 2021, and Netflix has plenty to keep you entertained. These movies have memorable New Year’s Eve scenes, and they’re all available for streaming tonight.
“Holidate” — This new addition isn’t the Christmas movie you might expect. Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey’s characters team up to be non-romantic dates through every holiday for an entire year, and their first major outing is a New Year’s Eve party. Surprise, surprise: keeping their relationship platonic isn’t so easy.
“Carol” — This 2015 Oscar-nominated drama follows a recent divorcee, Carol (Cate Blanchett), as she starts an affair with a young photographer, Therese (Rooney Mara). Their relationship hits a major turning point on New Year’s Eve 1952.
“About Time” — Domhnall Gleeson (“Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker”) and Rachel McAdams (“The Notebook”) star in this film as a couple where the male half time travels to change their relationship. One of his quests is to make a New Year’s Eve kiss absolutely perfect.
“Death to 2020” — It’s more of a special than a movie, but look at that title. We can all relate, and the all-star lineup makes it very attractive. Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Kumail Nanjiani, Lisa Kudrow and Leslie Jones star in this mockumentary from Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones (“Black Mirror”).
“Poseidon” — The 2006 remake finds a New Year’s Eve party on a luxury cruise going very wrong once the ship capsizes. Kurt Russell, Emmy Rossum and Andre Braugher star.
“Snowpiercer” — This dystopian Chris Evans thriller will make viewers think 2020 wasn’t so bad. The last remaining humans are on a never-ending train ride where the richest got first-class tickets to ride in luxury and the poorest are packed into the tail of the train. The bottom-class passengers are ready to revolt in this 2013 drama, directed by Oscar-winner Bong Joon-ho.
“After We Collided” — Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) are back in this sequel to give their tortured relationship another go. Their romance hits a snag at the New Year’s Eve party.
