7 Oscar-Winning Adult Actors Who Played Teenagers In Movies
When watching movies we rarely ever question the age of the real actors playing the characters, but sometimes there is a huge gap between the age of the characters and the age of the actor portraying them. For example, there are Oscar-winning adults who have been cast as teenagers in films.
Below are a list of seven Oscar-winning actors that have played a teenager in a movie.
1. Matt Damon
In 2013, Damon and Michael Douglas starred in a movie called “Behind the Candelabra” that aired on HBO. Damon’s character, Scott Thorson, was 18-years-old, but Damon was actually 43. Damon previously won an oscar for his 1998 movie, “Good Will Hunting.”
2. Emma Thompson
In 1995, Thompson starred in the popular movie “Sense and Sensibility,” based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name. Elinor Dashwood, the character that Thompson played, was 19-years-old. Thompson was 35 when they filmed. Thompson won an Oscar for best-adapted screenplay for this movie and had also previously won the Best Actress statue for the film “Howards End.”
3. Leonardo DiCaprio
In 2002, DiCaprio starred in “Catch Me If You Can” directed by Steven Spielberg. DiCaprio played Frank Despite being 28 at the time, DiCaprio portrayed Frank Abagnale, a 16-year-old character. DiCaprio went on to win an Oscar for his performance in “The Revenant.”
4. Jared Leto
In 1999, Leto, Winona Ryder, and Angelina Jolie starred in “Girl, Interrupted.” Leto played Tobias Jacobs, an 18-year-old, but was 28 when filming. Leto has an Oscar for his supporting role in “Dallas Buyers Club.”
5. Barbra Streisand
In 1983, Streisand starred in “Yentl,” where she played a 19-year-old Jewish girl named Yentl Mendel. Streisand was actually 41 during filming, however. She currently holds the Best Actress Oscar for “Funny Girl,” as well as one for Best Original Song, for the tune “Evergreen,” from “A Star is Born.”
6. Audrey Hepburn
In 1961, the beautiful and classic Hepburn starred in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” playing an 18-year-old named Holly Golightly. Hepburn was 32 when this movie was filmed. During her career, Hepburn received one Oscar win for the movie “Roman Holiday.” She was recognized by the American Film Institute as the third out of 25 greatest screen legends in the women’s category.
7. Ingrid Bergman
In 1948, Bergman an actress from the Golden Era starred in the classic movie “Joan Of Arc.” Through the film Bergman’s character, Joan, aged from 14 years-old to 19 years-old. Berman was 33-years-old when this movie was filmed. She also has three Oscars for “Gaslight,” “Anastasia,” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”
