Doctors amputated the arm of a 7-year-old Russan girl who developed gangrene after months of severe beating by her sadistic aunt.
The child will also need years of psychological therapy to recover from the constant abuse she suffered at the hands of her aunt a court in Sunzha, southwest Russa, heard.
The girl was sent to live with her 36-year old aunt, Makka Ganieva, a year ago when her mother was having financial problems. But instead of being cared for, she experienced abuse at the hands of her aunt.
Ganieva inflicted brutal punishments on the girl, leaving her covered in cuts and burns, reported News.com.au. The abuse only came to light when Ganieva took the child to the hospital with a swollen arm.
The doctors who diagnosed the child were shocked to find the gangrene in her right forearm. There were also burns, bites and knife cuts all over her body. The girl was transported to Moscow with a high fever and underwent partial amputation of her right arm.
When Ganieva failed to convincingly explain the cause of injuries to the doctors, the medics reported her to the police. She reportedly confessed to the attacks and to told the police that she had broken her niece's arm during a beating. Ganieva took the child to the hospital only days later when the arm became cold and lifeless.
Further probe revealed horrific details of the girl's seven-month stay with Ganieva.
Ganieva tortured the child by pressing her against a hot stove and cutting her with knives and scissors, the investigators found. "The child would get beat up for any mistakes. The assaults occurred during the period from December 2018 to July 2019," said prosecutor Maksharip Dobriev.
Ganieva has been found guilty by the court. She has been sentenced to six years in jail after being convicted of grievous bodily harm and child cruelty.
According to the mother of the child, she was facing financial troubles and she thought the 7-year-old would have a better life with her aunt. She now deeply regrets her decision, adding that the sentence was too mild.
"My daughter suffered from long-lasting abuse and received a severe psychological trauma. She will need years of rehabilitation," the mother said.
However, neighbors said that Ganieva, who is a mother of two children, never hurt her biological children.
