An eight-year-old boy died after he accidentally strangled himself while playing with a rope that was attached to a swing. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Kerala on Monday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Irshad, was playing alone in the backyard of his home when the unfortunate incident took place.

The boy was playing on the swing that was tied to a mango tree in the yard when he accidentally got strangled by the rope, local daily Marunadan Malayalee reported.

When his mother, who was inside the home with his two siblings, went to the yard to check on him, she found him unconscious with the rope around his neck.

The woman immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The boy’s body was sent for autopsy and his funeral service will take place once his father, who was not in the country, returned home.

Reports stated the boy was a grade 3 student and was survived by his parents and two elder siblings.

The incident comes weeks after a teen died after accidentally strangling himself with a rope in the Indian city of Madhya Pradesh.

The boy, identified as 13-year-old Raghvendra, was playing with his friends when the mishap took place. The boys had tied one end of the rope to the ceiling and were using it as a swing.

When the deceased was hanging on to it using his arm, the rope turned into a noose and tightened around the boy’s neck.

The boys alerted the neighbors who rushed to the scene and took him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors. The boy’s parents had gone for work when the incident took place.
