The 18-year-old woman, who accused two Brooklyn detectives of raping her after being taken into custody, was reportedly bullied by NYPD officers, in order to keep her from pressing sexual assault charges against the alleged rapists, her lawyer claimed.

“They came with nine cops to intimidate her and her mom, to discourage them from coming forward and reporting the rape and sexual assault,” Michael David, who represents the teenager, Anna Chambers, told The New York Post.

Chambers was undergoing treatment at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, when the alleged intimidation took place. According to her lawyer, nine officers from the 60th Precinct showed up at the hospital to threaten the victim into silence. “You don’t know what you’re talking about,” one of the officers told Chambers, while another asked, “Didn’t you make complaints about cops before?”

David made it clear that his client does not have a record of lodging complaints against the New York police. They also tried to scare Chambers by trying to convince his client and her mother that they could not be sure that the culprits who performed the deed were real cops.

At this point, Chambers shouted at the cops, one of whom has even almost chased her mother to the woman’s bathroom as an intimidation technique. “I know what cops look like,” Chambers yelled. “They had guns, there were handcuffs, and the police radio was on.” A nurse at the hospital encouraged Chambers’ mother to stay “strong for your daughter.”

Chambers was allegedly raped by Brooklyn South narcotics Detectives Richard Hall, 33, and Eddie Martins, 37, on Sept. 15, in the back seat of their police van after she was arrested for possessing drugs. The teenager accused the two men of forcing her to perform oral sex on them when she was handcuffed before they raped her.

When interrogated, the two cops admitted to the crimes that they were accused off, but said that the acts in question were consensual. However, before they could be sacked, the two resigned from the task force as they faced a 50-count indictment.

Regardless of the intimidation that Chambers underwent at the hands of the NYPD police, she went through with the medical exam and rape kit at the hospital, afterward. Genetic material recovered from Chambers through the rape kit has matched DNA collected from Martins and Hall.

David said his client has filed a $50 million notice of claim against the city, and he intends to add the aggressive officer from the hospital to the report of the incident that will be submitted to the Civilian Complaint Review Board. “I’m outraged,” he added. “To me, it’s almost as outrageous as the crime that you have cops trying to intimidate her not to report the crime, trying to protect fellow cops.”

Lawyers for Hall and Martins also tried to discredit Chambers image as a rape victim by drawing the attention of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office to the many raunchy posts tweeted by the teenager after the alleged assault, another article on the Post reported. Citing a provocative selfie and Chambers bragging about being followed by the paparazzi, the defense lawyers pointed out that “this behavior is unprecedented for a depressed victim of a vicious rape.”
