‘90 Day Fiancé’ Star Kalani Clarifies Dad’s ‘Racist’ Comments Against Asuelu
Following the release of “90 Day Fiancé” Season 6, episode 2, cast member Kalani Faagata took to Instagram to defend her father against fans who accused him of being racist.
Kalani previously revealed her father, who is Samoan, wanted his daughters to date “white guys” and was strictly against them ending up with men from Samoa. The comment became an issue among fans, especially since Kalani’s fiancé, who is also the father of her child, Asuelu Pulaa, is from Samoa.
During the airing of the TLC series, Asuelu finally came to America and officially started the 90-day countdown the couple had to get married. In one of her confessionals, Kalani expressed her concerns about introducing Asuelu to her family and feared her father would never approve of her relationship with a Samoan man.
On Sunday night, Kalani posted a few of her reactions to a Samoan dance Asuelu surprised her with at the airport. “That face you make when you know damn well he never fa’aula you nor greeted you with a siva at Faleolo, but nowww he wants to give you the beautiful gift of the LAPD at LAX,” she captioned the post.
However, in the comment section, Kalani appeared to be focused on doing some damage control as viewers called out her dad’s rules for his daughter’s. One fan complimented her relationship with Asuelu but was concerned her father was being “racist” even though “he and his kids are POC.”
Kalani denied claims that her father disliked his own people and hinted fans will receive an explanation in the upcoming episode. “Thank you so much! I promise you he isn’t, I’m hoping that will all be cleared up on next week’s episode. Thank you for watching,” she replied.
The “90 Day Fiancé” cast member went on to suggest her father was simply playing the role of a concerned dad and insisted race had nothing to do with his feelings towards Asuelu. “Once we could date he clarified what he meant and that he didn’t care what someone looked like as long as we were treated well and could live a comfortable life,” Kalani shared.
“I feel like that’s a normal dad thing, but apparently there are a lot of people in this world that don’t have dads that say/do dad things.”
Fans will just have to wait until next week to see if Kalani’s father will explain why is he is really hesitant about welcoming Asuelu into his family.
“90 Day Fiancé” Season 6 airs Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT on TLC.
