Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone and could miss the rest of the season.

Rodgers was wheeled into the locker room Sunday in Minnesota following a play in which Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr hit him hard in the first quarter. The Packers announced at halftime that his season may have been cut short after his injury diagnosis.

The two-time Most Valuable Player had rolled out to his left with Barr right on him. When Rodgers released the ball, Barr speared him, causing him to land awkwardly on his throwing shoulder.

Rodgers was irked and jawed at Barr after the play, however, officials decided not to penalize him. He walked off the field on his own accord, but after a quick medical exam on the sideline, he was transported off the field in an injury cart for further test. The team announced at halftime that he would not return.

"Packers have confirmed broken collarbone for Aaron Rodgers, could miss rest of season," NFL Insider Jay Glazer tweeted Sunday.

The 33-year-old quarterback was 2 of 4 for 18 yards and had led the Packers to a 4-1 record prior to Sunday’s game.

Brett Hundley, a third-year pro, filled in for Rodgers. He is the only other healthy quarterback currently on the Packers roster. Hundley entered the game having thrown 11 career passes, all coming during clean-up time at the end of fourth quarters. He was sacked twice and completed 4 of 8 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

From the time when he became a full-time starter in 2008, Rogers has been reliable. He started 132 of 134 games before he broke his collarbone in 2013. He missed seven games before returning in Week 17 and playing in the postseason.

Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn and Seneca Wallace all substituted for Rodgers in 2013. Flynn started for the once in 2010 when Rodgers sat out with a concussion and again in 2011 when he rested after the Packers clinched the top seed in the NFC playoffs.

NFL players, commentators, and fans took to social media and reacted to Rodgers’ injury.

"I hope @AaronRodgers12 is OK!" Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman tweeted. "The league is better when he’s healthy. Praying for you."

"Looks like Aaron Rodgers' throwing shoulder hurt," Fox Sports commentator Skip Bayless tweeted. "This isn't just bad for the Pack but for the NFL. I'm not a big fan but he's a BIG STAR."

Packers cornerback Quentin Rollins was also omitted from the game due to an ankle injury and is questionable.
