Abby Lee Miller Congratulates Meryl Davis, Not Maks, On ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 18 Finale Win
“Dance Moms” star Abby Lee Miller didn’t miss a beat in congratulating Olympic figure skater Meryl Davis on her “Dancing With the Stars” Season 18 win Tuesday night; one name, however, was noticeably absent from her congratulatory statement, Davis’ partner and “DWTS” dance pro Maksim “Maks” Chmerkovskiy.
Earlier this month, Miller, 47, infamously served as one of the ABC dance competition program's guest judges, which didn't sit well with Chmerkovskiy, a longtime dancer on the series.
“Meryl, those feet have been in ice skates for a long time. You laid on the floor in that ending pose when he rolled you and your feet were completely sickled on top of each other,” Miller told Davis after the duo’s May 5 rumba routine performance. “I’m telling you this because I think you have what it takes to win this and you need to fix those things in the future if you’re going to do anything that is contemporary,” Miller added.
When later prompted to address his opinions on Miller’s constructive criticism, Chmerkovskiy responded: “I really don’t care for anything that she has to say.”
While Miller shrugged off Chmerkovskiy’s response on-air, the Lifetime reality-TV star and longtime dance coach wasn’t shy about excluding the dancer from her warm wishes following the pair’s Season 18 win Tuesday night. “Meryl was 1 to beat since the beginning! Congrats!!!” Miller posted to Instagram, later confirming that she has no regrets about giving the 27-year-old “DWTS” star the controversial technique critique. “So glad I was tough on #dwts Meryl! Maybe just maybe SHE listened & concentrated on feet for the lyrical freestyle!” Miller said.
Despite Miller's diss to Chmerkovskiy, the 13-time “Dancing With the Stars” competitor and first-time Mirror Ball trophy winner didn’t seem fazed on social media following his win Tuesday.
“I just want to thank all the people who voted for @Merly_Davis and me! YOU are the reason we dance!” Chmerkovski, 34, posted to Twitter ahead of his “Good Morning America” appearance Wednesday. “THANK YOU @MerylDavis, THANK YOU @dancingABC, THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR US ALL THESE WEEKS!” the “DWTS” pro later added alongside an image of himself and Davis holding up their award.
While Davis didn’t directly respond to Miller’s reaction to her win, she has since expressed gratitude to the show's viewers. “Thank you for all the incredible support,” Davis posted to Twitter Wednesday. “I’m completely overwhelmed. @MaksimC and I have been so fortunate to share this journey w/ you!”
