An ABC News journalist was suspended from work Wednesday over his incorrect reporting on the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.

The network has decided to suspend its chief national correspondent Matt Gutman after saying on-air that all four of Bryant's daughters were with him when the helicopter crashed and killed all nine passengers Sunday, according to NBC News.

He later apologized for his inaccuracy after correct evidence pointed that only the 13-year-old Gianna was with Kobe, a five-time NBA champion, on board the helicopter.

“Reporting the facts accurately is the cornerstone of our journalism,” an ABC News spokesperson told E! News. The representative further noted that Gutman's initial reporting on the incident was not only inaccurate, but it also “failed to meet our editorial standards.”

Gutman apologized for the second time late Wednesday, saying that he holds himself responsible for his mistake and that he deeply regretted his actions.

“I want to personally apologize to the Bryant family for this wrenching loss and any additional anguish my report caused,” Gutman said in a statement that he shared with E! News.
