On Tuesday night, Diane Sawyer will host a new ABC News special that will focus on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to a press release, the new episode will showcase Sawyer as she evaluates "how COVID-19 crept into our lives" following its emergence in Wuhan, China. Here's what we know prior to its premiere and when you can watch "Our New Reality: A Diane Sawyer Special."

The new ABC News report will take a closer look at the work being done by scientists nationwide as they attempt to find a cure for the novel coronavirus and various people who have volunteered for human trials.

Not only will the aforementioned people be featured on Tuesday's show, but other essential workers on the frontlines will also make their own appearances. This group will notably feature several employees who are have been working at two assisted living facilities in Ohio as they try to ensure the safety of their residents by taking certain steps.

A preview of "Our New Reality," which can be seen below, focuses on the timeline that has brought us to this point. Beginning on New Year's Eve, the show will explore how we ended up in our current state in only five months. It will also explore how things unraveled so fast throughout 2020.

As Sawyer tackles the "most challenging and complex story of her career," she will report on how "a ticking time bomb spread across America."

The new special will also focus on various questions that have emerged throughout the pandemic, such as whether we have done enough or have gone too far. Additionally, it will also take viewers inside the work being done to create a vaccine and what's next as states begin to reopen in the coming months.

On Tuesday night, those who tune in will get to see "a television event 12 weeks in the making."

"Our New Reality: A Diane Sawyer Special" will air Tuesday night at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
