'Abusive' Airline Passenger Dragged Off Plane, Allegedly Attacked Arresting Officers
An "abusive" passenger on board a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Melbourne was dragged off the plane by Australian Federal Police officers, media reports said Monday. While being removed from the jet, the passenger allegedly attacked the arresting officers.
The 26-year-old was reportedly disruptive and abusive toward staff on the plane, which was due to leave Sydney on Saturday. According to local media outlet Nine News, the man was escorted off the plane before takeoff. However, when asked to leave the plane, the man resisted and attacked officers.
The incident was caught on camera and the footage showed the man appearing to headbutt a police officer during the dramatic in-flight departure.
"Our crew attempted to calm the passenger however after the man's behaviour continued, the crew contacted the AFP and the passenger was escorted off the flight," a representative for Jetstar told Daily Mail Australia.
The footage, captured by a fellow passenger onboard the flight, shows five police officers attempting to remove the man from the flight. The man allegedly threw some punches and lashed out as officers tried to tackle him.
One passenger who witnessed the brawl told Nine News that the officer was "knocked to the ground for about a minute before he was helped to his feet." Two officers are believed to have been injured in the incident.
The disruptive passenger, who was not identified, was charged with multiple offenses, including assaulting and resisting police. He was set to appear in Sydney Downing Centre Local Court on July 23.
"Thank all the Federal Police and Jetstar Australia crew on this flight who handled the situation the best way they could have and removed the problem and went on with the flight!" a female passenger who was on board the jet wrote on her Facebook, the Sun reported.
