- Hakimi's agent says his client has left Real because of Zidane
- Hakimi has signed with Inter Milan ahead of summer market
- He has scored 16 senior career goals so far
Achraf Hakimi’s agent has revealed his client left Real Madrid because of club boss Zinedine Zidane.
The 21-year-old Hakimi made his senior debut for Real Madrid in October 2017 against Espanyol. He went on to play for Real Madrid in 17 matches in his debut season 2017-18, where he scored twice. Hakimi was then loaned to Germany, where he joined Dortmund in 2018. After spending two years at the Bundesliga side, Hakimi – who is Los Blancos’ youth academy product – recently signed with Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer market.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hakimi’s agent Alejandro Camano has pointed out that his client never was in Zidane’s plans for Real’s immediate future.
“Zidane is the reason [Achraf] signed for Inter. Now he has to explain why Achraf left. I think returning [to Real Madrid] at the moment isn't ideal, given the presence of [Dani] Carvajal. I'm sure [Achraf]'s future will be bright after making this step,” added Camano, as reported by Spanish publication Marca.
Camano has disclosed that Inter Milan’s manager Antonio Conte has also played a key role in persuading Achraf to move to Italy.
“Conte was always in contact. He told [Achraf] about the club's project, and when a coach insists on having you in his team, it means you represent an important part of the club's project,” said Camano.
Hakimi, who represents Monaco in international football, has so far scored 16 senior career goals including two for his national side, 12 for Dortmund, and two for Real Madrid.
Inter Milan have signed Hakimi for $45 million on a five-year deal.
“Real Madrid and Inter Milan have agreed to transfer Achraf Hakimi. The club wants to thank Achraf for all these years of dedication, professionalism and exemplary behavior since he came to our academy in 2006 and wishes him good luck in his new phase,” said Real Madrid in a statement about Hakimi, who had joined the club’s academy in 2006.
