KEY POINTS

  • Activision has announced that a new "Call of Duty" game is set to be released in Q4 of this year
  • The announcement came without a developer
  • Insiders are saying that the new game will be set in the Cold War and it could possibly be entitled "Black Ops 5"

Activision announced in its latest earnings call with investors that a new “Call of Duty” game is scheduled to be released sometime in Q4 of this year. This might sound like a lot of fun for the fans of the game because who doesn't want a new title?

“In Q4 this year, a new premium Call of Duty release is already generating excitement in our playtests,” said Activision Chief Operating Officer, Coddy Johnson, according IGN.

There is, however, a slight catch. While Activision revealed that there is going to be a new game, they didn't indulge on who the developer would be. IGN continued that Activision “typically rotates” between Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to come up with a new “Call of Duty” game every year. This year, on the other hand, left everybody hanging.

Another speculation is that the new “Call of Duty” title might be “Black Ops 5.” Express UK relayed a tweet from the game's resident leaker, LongSensation, when he said that the new game will be “set during the Cold War. Spans the entire 40+ years and incs Vietnam and Korean war. Described as even more gritty and gruesome than Modern Warfare.”

At the same time, Metro UK echoed the same idea, plus the fact that Activision might be considering a free-to-play component.

The outlet also detailed a tweet from known insider Daniel Ahmad, who said that Activision is planning on remastering a handful of titles which are set to be announced this year. In addition, @ZhugeEX pointed that the company is looking to get “Diablo Immortal” into “testing” sometime in the middle of 2020.
