Actor John Malkovich’s son Loewy Malkovich was recently taken into custody for being a part of a “Black Lives Matter” rally that turned violent in Portland, Oregon.
Loewy, who is a software engineer by profession, was one of the 27 people arrested from ground zero, New York Post reported. According to the authorities, the arrests were made after the protestors attacked police officials who were trying to protect their union building.
In a press release obtained by the publication, the Portland Police Bureau said that Loewy was arrested for interfering with a peace officer and second-degree disorderly conduct. However, it is unclear if he was involved personally in doing something damaging during the protests.
Mike Schmidt, the District Attorney of Multnomah County District, noted that the charges on John’s son are low-level and his office will not even prosecute, the media outlet reported.
“What we’re doing is recognizing that the right to speak and have your voice heard is extremely important. If you’re out there committing violence, you’re damaging property, those cases are going to be prosecuted. If you’re a person who is out there demonstrating and you get caught up in the melee, those are the kinds of cases that we’re talking about,” The Oregonian quote Schmidt, as saying.
Police have already declared the rally a "riot" after protesters hurled Molotov cocktails at them, and they responded with a barrage of tear gas to disperse the crowd.
"This is a riot. Police are giving announcements to disperse. People are throwing Molotov cocktails," Portland Police said on Twitter.

According to a recent update by CNN, law enforcement authorities have arrested more than 50 people during the violent protests, marking the 100th consecutive night of protests after the killing of George Floyd.
Police also revealed that out of the 50 people arrested from the protests, 2 were wearing body armors, one person possessed a dagger while another person had a knife.
John Malkovich has been one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. He started his career in 1978 with numerous TV shows and then made his way to the movies. Malkovich has been nominated for two Oscars, three Golden Globes, and three Primetime Emmys.
However, his son Loewy decided to not follow in his father’s footsteps and became a software engineer.
