Is Aerosmith Breaking Up? Steven Tyler Says Band Could Go On Farewell Tour In 2017
Aerosmith could “Walk This Way” to retirement in 2017. Steven Tyler is getting ready to embark on a solo tour, and when it comes to an end, he’ll get back with Aerosmith to figure out if the band will be moving on to its final chapter.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Tyler talked about the future of the band and what’s next following his upcoming tour. He said Aerosmith will either be getting ready to pack it in or could eventually head into the studio for a new album.
“I'm doing 30 [solo] shows from May until August,” Tyler said. “And then in 2017 we go out with Aerosmith. We’re probably doing a farewell tour. Look, there’s two bands that still have the original members, us and the Stones. I’m grateful for that. Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I’m just excited about it.”
The idea that the band could be getting ready to bring things to an end after 46 years started in December. Guitarist Brad Whitford told Eddie Trunk’s podcast the group might be gearing up for a final tour. Whitford said it would be due to age and would give the band a chance to say goodbye before some of the members can’t tour anymore.
Tyler is currently working on a country album, which does not yet have an official title or release date. The 68-year-old singer will promote the album during his upcoming solo shows, but tour dates for the concerts have not been announced.
Aerosmith last played a live show in 2015 and is now on a “brief hiatus.” The band last put out an album in 2012 with “Music from Another Dimension!” The release was Aerosmith’s first in eight years at the time.
If Aerosmith does decide to hang it up, it would be the latest classic rock band to retire. Recently, Black Sabbath has been on its final tour, and the Eagles decided to no longer play shows following the death of Glenn Frey in January.
