World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has completed a major coup ahead of WrestleMania 35 after multiple sources confirmed that the Usos had committed their long-term future to the WWE. There were doubts with regards to their future as they were nearing the end of their previous contract.

PW Insider’s Mike Johnson revealed Wednesday that WWE had reached an agreement with the SmackDown Live tag team champions for a new deal. The report claimed the brothers had signed the contract several weeks back.

The Usos – Jey and Jimmy – have been part of the WWE main roster since 2010 and have been a major part of the tag team division, having won the title on six occasions. They were reaching the end of their contract in April and multiple reports suggested they were planning to leave the promotion.

The Usos’ father and former WWE superstar Rikishi Fatu had hinted they could depart, stating that his sons had nothing to prove in the WWE anymore. Additionally, the duo were being linked with a move to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the new promotion making waves in North America.

AEW, which is backed by Pakistani-American billionaire Shahid Khan and founded by his son Tony, is looking to recruit top pro-wrestlers and had its eye on numerous WWE stars reaching the end of their contracts. It would have been a major coup had it landed the reigning SmackDown Live tag team champions.

There were even reports that suggested Jey Uso and his wife Naomi – real name Trinity Fatu – were trying to get themselves fired in order to get released from their WWE contracts. But the Usos will now be part of WrestleMania 35 and will defend their titles in a four-way tag team match against The Bar, Ricochet & Alistair Black and the team of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura.

WWE has been trying to secure as many of its wrestlers as possible on new contracts following the emergence of AEW, and the Usos have followed in the footsteps of AJ Styles, who committed his future to world’s most popular pro-wrestling promotion after months of speculation.

However, there are question marks on the futures of a number of WWE stars, including Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey, who is expected to take a hiatus from in-ring competition after WrestleMania on April 7. The futures of tag team duo Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are also unclear going into the flagship pay-per-view event.
