'The Affair’ Season 2 Spoilers: Will Noah And Alison’s Relationship Survive? Alison Faces Major Milestone Alone In Episode 9 [RECAP]
A storm is brewing on Season 2 episode 9 of Showtime's "The Affair." While the gang is preparing for a horrible hurricane, things in each of their lives seem to be spiraling out of control just as fast as the storm is rolling in.
The episode chronicles one day and shows what each of the main characters are doing as the storm approaches. It kicks off with a very-pregnant Alison Lockhart (Ruth Wilson) home by herself. It looks like Alison is about to give birth at any minute and she's growing concerned about Hurricane Alex. Meanwhile, we seen Helen Solloway (Maura Tierney) at a bar waiting for her Tinder date, but she gets stood up. As she's about to leave, a cute doctor named Vic (Omar Metwally) strikes up a conversation. It turns out the doctor is the same one that operated on Martin (Jake Siciliano).
The doctor starts flirting with Helen and asks for her number but Helen refuses to give it to him. Dr. Vic then asks her out on a date, but Helen dismisses his advances, saying that a first date is just "an interview for sex." The doctor tries another approach and asks her if she wants to sleep with him and Helen tells him yes. Once she's home, Helen makes sure her kids are preoccupied and she sneaks the doctor into her basement.
After Helen and Dr. Vic’s little fling, she invites him upstairs and offers him a cup of water. Martin sees the doctor in the kitchen and suspects that there is something going on between his mom and the surgeon. The doctor is very good with Martin and teaches him a new trick to help him take his medicine.
The show then flashes to Alison, who goes into labor as the storm is coming in. She tries calling Noah Solloway (Dominic West) but he's not answering his phone. Alison decides to go to the hospital but tells her doctor that she doesn't want to deliver the baby yet because she can't reach her fiancé and she's five weeks early. The doctor, however, tells Alison that she's going to deliver in the next few hours.
The next scene tells us what Noah has been doing while Alison has been trying to reach him: He's out partying. Noah and his publisher Eden (Brooke Lyons) -- he almost slept with her in episode 8 -- are driving to a house party. The guy throwing the party is interested in meeting with Noah to discuss the possibility of turning his book into a movie starring George Clooney as the lead.
While Noah and Eden are driving to the party, Noah hears his cell phone buzzing but he can't find it. Eden tells him to forget about it until after the party. Inside, Noah runs into his friend Max (Josh Stamberg), but the run-in doesn't go over well. Noah thinks Max is trying to ruin his potential deal for a movie, and Max is wrapped up in partying and doing lines of cocaine. It should be noted that Noah also does some cocaine and also gets drunk with Eden.
Eventually Noah decides he's ready to leave the party, but Eden starts flirting with him and asks him to stay. She tells him to meet her upstairs in the guest bedroom in 15 minutes.
Instead of heading to the bedroom, Noah makes a detour to the pool. After a swim, he spots two women kissing and it turns out one of the girls is his underage daughter Whitney (Julia Goldani Telles). Whitney freaks out when she realizes her dad is at the party, and Noah panics and tries to leave the party.
However, the valet tells Noah he has to spend the night at the house because the weather is too bad to drive in. Noah refuses and attempts to leave anyway but doesn't get very far. His car gets stuck in mud and a frustrated Noah breaks down crying. This is the first time we see Noah get emotional and cry.
Back at the hospital, Alison is still trying to stall giving birth. Neither she nor the doctors have been able to reach to Noah.
Viewers also get to see a little of Cole Lockhart (Joshua Jackson) in this episode. Cole and his girlfriend Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) are at the house, and Luisa is telling Cole stories to try and get him out of his funk. Nothing seems to be working, and Luisa tells Cole that he needs to start opening up to her. At one point, things get tense between them when Luisa reveals she's not able to have children.
Cole is now convinced that the Lockhart curse is true. In episode 7, his mother told Cole and his brothers a story about how there will never be another Lockhart baby because of evil things their grandfather did. Luisa gets angry with Cole and leaves in the middle of the storm.
At the hospital once again, Alison is still trying to delay having the baby but the doctor tells her she needs to start pushing. Alison is having a hard time delivering but she eventually she gives birth to a healthy girl. After Alison and the baby get some alone time to bond, the doctor comes in and tells Alison that her husband has finally arrived. Alison tells the doctor she doesn't want to see him yet, but we have a feeling Alison's visitor isn’t Noah.
While Alison is giving birth, Cole has a complete mental breakdown and thinks he sees his deceased son standing outside in the storm. Cole then starts dumping alcohol on the floor of the house and sets it on fire as he stands in the center of the living room seemingly surrounded by flames.
