After BMW South Africa Flub, German Automaker Releases Official Photos Of Its All-New 2 Series Coupe
German automaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (FRA:BMW) officially released specs for its new 2 Series coupe, which replaces its teensy 1 Series five-door with a more sedan-like luxury car for small families.
According to BMW Car Club of America, a website designed for and by BMW fanatics, the Munich-based company apparently didn’t have its reigns tight enough on its South African operation, which accidentally released specs on its website late last month.
BMW had a big unveil planned for its new competitor to Audi’s A3 and Mercedes-Benz’s CLA Class at the North American International Auto Show for January, but now we know what to expect when BMW officially unveils the car this week.
The twin turbo 2014 BMW 2 Series will come in two versions, the 228i and the M235i, both available with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions. The 228i has four-cylinders, 240 horsepower and 2.0 liters of displacement. The M235i gets six cylinders, 322 hp and a top speed of 155 mph.
It's priced at $33,000 for the slower version. The M235i is about $44,000. BMW says production is underway at the company’s Leipzig, Germany, factory.
