Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made it clear that The Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is currently out of action due to injury, will not play for at least six more weeks.

In the absence of Alisson, Adrian stood between the sticks for the defending champions, but could not save Liverpool from suffering a humiliating 7-2 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League Sunday. The last time Liverpool conceded seven goals in a league game was back in 1963.

During a post-match interview after the Aston Villa away match, Klopp said that there is no chance for Alisson to return in time for Liverpool’s derby match against Everton on Oct. 17, which is The Reds’ first fixture after the international break.

"No chance to play against Everton. Let me say, it could have been worse with that injury, that's for sure. I don't want to put a timeframe on it but four weeks could be possible, six weeks is maybe more likely, but I don't know. We have to assess this thing," said Klopp.

Alisson has played a vital role in Liverpool's success since his arrival from Roma in 2018.

The Brazilian’s replacement during the Aston Villa game – Adrian made an error that handed the hosts the opening goal. However, Klopp has backed Adrian as an able replacement for Alisson, as he did last season.

"People will go for Adrian and stuff like this. Yes, the first goal was not cool but, apart from that, I don't think he had anything to do with all the other goals pretty much. We didn't help him tonight He's a really good goalie who played 11 games for us last year and I think we won pretty much all of them. Tonight, our goalie was not the problem," explained Klopp in the same interview.
