After Looting Delaware's Wells Fargo, Robber Deposits Stolen Cash At Same Bank's ATM
Call it lack of knowledge or a careless mistake--what a Delaware robber did Saturday was surely one of those epic fails in the history of robbery. He first stole cash from a bank and then tried to deposit the loot in his account with the same bank using one of its ATMs.
McRoberts Williams, 44, was arrested Saturday after authorities said he looted the Wells Fargo bank on Old Capitol Trail at the Prices Corner Shopping Center in Wilmington at around 11:20 a.m. ET. According to a statement by the Delaware State Police, Williams slipped a note to the bank's teller, demanding cash, and the woman complied.
"The bank teller complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash," police said in the statement. Cops said Williams fled the scene after robbing the bank but ended up using the ATM outside the building. "The suspect fled the bank on foot, and once outside, he made a deposit in the ATM on the exterior of the building," according to the statement.
Williams was charged with second-degree robbery after his arrest. His bond was set at $6,000.
Williams fled from the ATM after depositing the cash and hid behind the shopping center to evade arrest. However, the authorities were able to track him down and detain him. It's unclear how much money was stolen from the bank, reported NBC Philadelphia.
Apparently, not every robber is a suave criminal and there are many like Williams who make glaring errors while pulling a heist. The internet has an avalanche of such funny videos that show robbery attempts going horribly wrong.
In one such video, a robber foolishly enters a store in broad daylight and in the presence of many other customers, flashes a gun to the owner demanding money but ends up receiving a good beating from the mob. In another such incident of a failed robbery attempt, a group of robbers burst into a McDonald's outlet in France, fired their shotguns declaring a holdup, and made off with about $2258.356. However, they had no idea that inside the store, there were 11 GIGN members, the elite-tactical unit of France that specializes in counter-terror and hostage crisis, having their lunch. The off-duty commandos held the robbers and brought them to the task.
