After Signing Grealish At $137M, Manchester City Want $117M Striker As Kane's Alternative: Report
KEY POINTS
- Dusan Vlahovic is contracted with Fiorentina until 2023
- He scored 21 goals last season for the Italian club
- Spurs are yet to respond to City's $173 million offer for Harry Kane
Manchester City have reportedly turned their focus to Fiorentina's promising striker Dusan Vlahovic as an alternative to Tottenham's Harry Kane.
The 21-year-old Vlahovic is coincidently also a target of Tottenham and Atletico Madrid. Manchester City are not only seeing Vlahovic as a replacement if they fail to sign Kane but also as an ideal option who holds the potential to become the club's future, reported Italian media outlet, Firenze Viola.
Kane, who recently indicated his desire to win trophies, has been heavily linked with a move from Spurs to City this summer. However, both the clubs have failed to reach an agreement.
It is understood that Manchester City made another bid worth $173 million for Kane last week but Tottenham have not responded yet. In fact, Kane has also reported at Spurs' training for the 2021-22 season, even though he did not feature in their 1-0 win in the 2021-22 Premier League opening game, which was coincidentally against City.
Manchester City parted ways with their primary striker Sergio Aguero, who left as a free agent this summer to join FC Barcelona. The Premier League champions are yet to sign a replacement for Aguero, who finished his decade-long career at City as the club's all-time goalscorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances, across all competitions.
While Pep Guardiola has admitted that Aguero is irreplaceable at City, the club is still looking to add more depth to its squad. While 28-year-old Kane is considered to be an apt option, City are also chasing Fiorentina's Vlahovic.
Vlahovic, who joined Fiorentina in 2018, has netted 31 goals and four assists in 85 competitive matches for the Italian club. The young Serbian striker had a brilliant run last season for Fiorentina, scoring 21 goals and providing two assists in as many as 40 matches.
Manchester City, who recently signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa at a Premier League record fee of $137 million, will have to shell out another $117 million if they want to convince Fiorentina to let go of Vlahovic.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen but I’m planning to keep Vlahovic this summer, I want him to stay. But if we receive a bid for €100m, I’ll think about it,” Fiorentina president Rocco B. Commisso reacted to rumors about Vlahovic, who is contracted with the Serie A club until 2023.
